2026 Honda Odyssey or 2027 Honda Odyssey, which Honda Odyssey Year or trim should an Atlanta family buy?

By Daniel Covington

For most families looking for the best Honda Odyssey trim in Atlanta, the EX-L covers everything that matters: eight seats, power sliding doors, heated front seats, tri-zone climate and the full Honda Sensing suite.

Step up to the Touring if your kids ride more than an hour at a time, because it adds the 12.8-inch rear entertainment screen and parking sensors. Choose the Elite if summer heat and highway noise bother you most. It's the only Odyssey with ventilated front seats and acoustic glass in the doors. (Honda 2027 Odyssey specifications)

The Sport-L is the EX-L with sportier styling and two 3rd-row USB-C ports. Pick it if you like the look, not because it drives differently.

Should you buy a 2026 or a 2027 Odyssey?

Buy a 2026 if the trim and color you want are still on the lot. Honda's own spec sheets show the two years with the same 280-hp V6, the same 19/28/22 mpg EPA rating, and the same cargo space and safety equipment. The 2027's MSRP is $400 higher on every trim. (Honda 2026 pricing, Honda 2027 pricing)

The one feature change is on the EX-L and Sport-L. The 2026 has leather-trimmed seats, and the 2027 switches to HondaTex, which Honda describes as synthetic leather. (Honda Info Center) We went through every line of both spec sheets in our 2026 vs. 2027 Honda Odyssey comparison, including a full change table and trim-by-trim pricing.

What matters when you drive an Odyssey around Atlanta?

Atlanta asks a minivan to do three different jobs: crawl through rush hour, run long highway trips, and squeeze into event parking. Every trim has the same engine, size and fuel economy. Where the trims differ is comfort and convenience.

  • GA-400 and I-285 stop-and-go. Every Odyssey has Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and automatic brake hold, so the crawl between the Perimeter and Buckhead is less tiring on any trim.
  • Weekend trips. St. Simons and Jekyll Island are close to 300 miles from Atlanta. The 19.5-gallon tank and 28 mpg highway rating work out to about 546 miles of EPA highway range, enough for one fuel stop round trip in typical conditions.
  • North Georgia. Ellijay is about 80 miles up I-575 and GA-515. Apple-picking season there generally runs from late August through October. (Explore Georgia)
  • Event parking. The Odyssey is 205.2 inches long. Parking sensors on the Touring and Elite help in the Battery decks at Truist Park, where the Braves strongly recommend buying parking ahead of time. (Atlanta Braves parking)
  • Georgia summers. Every trim gets tri-zone automatic climate with 2nd-row controls. Ventilated seats are Elite-only.

Is the EX-L enough for most families?

Yes. The EX-L is the value pick, and the trim we'd steer most families toward first. You get eight seats, the Magic Slide 2nd row, a 3rd-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor, a power tailgate, a moonroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and every Honda Sensing feature.

What you give up: no rear entertainment screen, no parking sensors, and no 3rd-row USB-C ports. The EX-L has a 3rd-row 12-volt outlet instead. If your kids are under ten and ride in the way back, plan on a charging adapter.

Who should pick the Touring?

Pick the Touring if your family does long drives. It adds the 12.8-inch Advanced Rear Entertainment System with wireless headphones and CabinWatch, a camera view of the back seats on the front screen. You also get built-in navigation with HD Digital Traffic, front and rear parking sensors, three 3rd-row USB-C ports, 3rd-row sunshades, and a front 115-volt outlet.

That's a lot of hardware for a four-plus-hour drive down I-75 to the coast. At $4,700 more MSRP than the EX-L in either year, it's worth it only if those trips are a regular part of your life.

Is the Elite worth it in Georgia heat?

The Elite is worth it if you spend real time in the van between May and September. It's the only Odyssey with ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power tailgate, power-folding mirrors, and acoustic laminated glass in the front and rear doors. That glass is the reason it's the quietest Odyssey on I-285 with trucks alongside. Honda doesn't publish cabin decibel figures, so that ranking is based on equipment.

Our comparison page covers which Odyssey is coolest, quietest and easiest to park, road by road, from GA-400 to I-85.

How do the trims compare at a glance?

Trim 2026 MSRP 2027 MSRP Best for
EX-L $42,795 $43,195 Most families, best value
Sport-L $43,895 $44,295 EX-L buyers who want the sport styling
Touring $47,495 $47,895 Road trips and long school-run days
Elite $51,695 $52,095 Summer heat, quiet highways, tight garages

MSRP per Honda's pricing releases, as of October 2026. It excludes tax, title, license, destination and options, and dealer prices vary. (Honda 2026 pricing, Honda 2027 pricing)

What should you budget beyond the sticker?

Plan for Georgia's Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT), a one-time tax paid when the vehicle is titled. As of October 2026 it's 7.0% of the vehicle's fair market value, and it replaces sales tax and the annual ad valorem tax for most vehicles. (Georgia Department of Revenue) Add Honda's destination charge and $455 if you choose a premium paint color. (Honda)

Every trim takes regular unleaded and gets the same EPA 19 city / 28 highway mpg, so fuel costs don't change with the trim you choose.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Honda Odyssey EX-L or Touring better for families?
The EX-L is better for most families because it has the same seats, engine, safety equipment and cargo space for $4,700 less MSRP. The Touring is better if your kids regularly ride an hour or more, since it adds the rear entertainment screen, CabinWatch, parking sensors and more 3rd-row charging ports.

Which Odyssey has air-conditioned seats?
Only the Elite. It's the only Odyssey trim with ventilated front seats, in both 2026 and 2027. Every other trim has heated front seats without ventilation, and no Odyssey has ventilated 2nd- or 3rd-row seats.

Is the 2027 Odyssey worth waiting for?
For most buyers, no. Honda's spec sheets show the 2027 is mechanically identical to the 2026, costs $400 more MSRP, and moves the EX-L and Sport-L to HondaTex synthetic seats. See the full breakdown in our 2026 vs. 2027 Odyssey comparison.

Is one Odyssey trim safer than another?
No. Every trim has the same airbags, Honda Sensing suite and rear seat reminder. IIHS rates the Odyssey Poor in its updated moderate-overlap test, which measures rear-passenger protection, and that rating applies to every 2023–2027 Odyssey regardless of trim. (IIHS crash test ratings)
