2027 vs. 2026 Honda Accord: Is the Newer Model Year Worth Paying More For?

By Daniel Covington

Is the 2027 Honda Accord worth the premium over a new 2026?

For most Atlanta buyers, no. As of early October 2026, Honda has not announced pricing or a feature list for the U.S. 2027 Accord. Industry reporting expects a carryover year with little or no change and a small price bump of about 1 to 3%. If you like the 2026 Accord you can drive today, waiting for the 2027 mostly means paying a bit more for the same car with a newer model year on the title.

The one good reason to wait is resale. A 2027 will be one model year newer when you trade it in. That matters more if you trade every three or four years, and less if you keep cars until the wheels fall off.

What's actually different on the 2027 Accord?

Very little, based on everything public so far. The 2027 updates Honda has shown are for the Japanese-market Accord, and they're cosmetic: body-colored headlight surrounds and painted lower trim instead of black plastic. The powertrain carries over unchanged.

The bigger news is further out. American Honda has said "major changes" are coming for the Accord, and a much more significant redesign is reported for later in 2027. That's the update worth waiting for if you want something new. The 2027 model year likely isn't it.

2026 Honda Accord prices and what you get today

The 2026 Accord already got its meaningful upgrade. Honda gave the LX and SE a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless phone charger as standard equipment. Hybrid trims get a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Here is the lineup, using Honda's own figures:

2026 Accord trim Powertrain MSRP EPA city/hwy/combined
LX 1.5L turbo, 192 hp $28,395 29/37/32
SE 1.5L turbo, 192 hp $30,695 28/36/31
Sport Hybrid 2.0L hybrid, 204 hp $33,795 46/41/44
EX-L Hybrid 2.0L hybrid, 204 hp $35,095 51/44/48
Sport-L Hybrid 2.0L hybrid, 204 hp $35,495 46/41/44
Touring Hybrid 2.0L hybrid, 204 hp $39,495 46/41/44

MSRP from Honda's build and price tool. It excludes tax, title, registration, Honda's current $1,295 destination charge, and the $455 charge for premium colors. Specs and EPA ratings from Honda's 2026 Accord release. The EX-L Hybrid rides on 17-inch wheels, which is why it rates higher than the other hybrid trims. Dealer pricing, fees, and incentives vary.

What the premium really costs you in Georgia

The sticker difference isn't the whole difference. Georgia charges a one-time Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT) of 7.0% of the vehicle's fair market value when you title the car. Every dollar of price increase gets taxed too.

So if the 2027 LX lands about $600 higher, you'd pay roughly $640 more out the door once TAVT is added. That's not a lot of money, but you'd be paying it for a different number on the title and not much else.

The other factor is timing. Late in a model year, dealers are clearing out remaining 2026 inventory. That's often when the best selection of discounted outgoing-year cars shows up. Before you assume the 2027 is the smarter buy, check what 2026 Accords are in stock. When you build a deal on Clicklane, current manufacturer incentives are applied automatically, so you see the real number before you commit.

Should you buy the 2027 Toyota Camry instead of a 2026 Accord?

If fuel economy and price come first, the Camry has a strong case. If you want the bigger trunk, or a non-hybrid option under $30,000, the Accord does.

Pricing for the 2027 Camry has surfaced, but Toyota hasn't published it yet. According to Toyota order guide data reported by CarsDirect, the 2027 carries over with a $100 increase on every trim, and the LE starts at $29,700 before destination. Every Camry is a hybrid, with all-wheel drive available on every grade, according to Toyota.

2027 Toyota Camry LE 2026 Honda Accord LX 2026 Honda Accord Sport Hybrid
MSRP (before destination) $29,700 (reported) $28,395 $33,795
Powertrain 2.5L hybrid, 225 hp (232 hp AWD) 1.5L turbo, 192 hp 2.0L hybrid, 204 hp
Combined MPG 51 32 44
AWD available Yes, about +$1,525 No No
Est. annual fuel cost* about $920 about $1,470 about $1,070

*Based on 12,000 miles a year at the Atlanta-metro average of $3.92 for regular, per AAA Georgia gas price data as of Oct. 4, 2026. Your costs will vary with how and where you drive. Camry horsepower and the 51 mpg combined rating (LE FWD) are Toyota's figures for the current generation, and the 2027 is expected to carry them over. Accord figures are from Honda. The Camry AWD price is from Autoblog.

Where the 2027 Camry wins

  • Price for a hybrid. The Camry LE costs about $4,100 less than the cheapest Accord Hybrid and still beats it on combined fuel economy.
  • Fuel cost against the gas Accord. The Camry LE costs about $1,300 more than an Accord LX. At the fuel cost estimates above, it saves roughly $550 a year. That gap closes in about two and a half years, even after the extra TAVT.
  • All-wheel drive. Every Camry grade offers AWD. Every 2026 Accord is front-wheel drive.
  • Power. The Camry's 225 hp (232 hp with AWD) tops the Accord Hybrid's 204 hp.

Where the 2026 Accord wins

  • The cheapest way into a new midsize sedan. The Accord LX starts about $1,300 below the Camry LE.
  • Trunk space. The Accord offers a 16.7 cubic-foot trunk, which is plenty for golf bags or a Costco run.
  • A gas option. If you don't want a hybrid, the Accord LX and SE still offer a conventional turbocharged engine. The Camry is hybrid-only.

Which is better for metro Atlanta driving?

Your commute should help decide this. If you're crawling around I-285, through the Downtown Connector, or up GA-400 at rush hour, a hybrid earns its keep. Hybrids recover energy in stop-and-go traffic, and that's where they beat gas engines by the widest margin.

If most of your miles are open highway, like I-75 to Macon or weekend runs up GA-400 toward the North Georgia mountains, the gap narrows. The Accord LX's highway economy is respectable, and its lower price matters more.

Two Georgia details apply no matter which you buy. Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, and the rest of the 13 metro Atlanta counties require emissions testing, but the three newest model years are exempt. A 2026 or 2027 won't need a test for a few years. And Georgia summers mean a lot of idling with the A/C running. Hybrids can often run the A/C at a stop without keeping the engine on the whole time.

So which should you buy?

  • Buy the 2026 Accord if you want an Accord and can get a good deal on an outgoing 2026. You're getting essentially the same car as the 2027 for less.
  • Wait for the 2027 Accord only if you trade often and want the newer model year for resale, or you need a color or trim that's sold out in 2026 stock.
  • Look at the 2027 Camry if you want a hybrid for the least money, need AWD, or put a lot of stop-and-go miles on your car.
  • Hold off on both if you want the next-generation Accord. Reports point to a bigger redesign later in 2027.
