Most Hybrid-versus-Electric articles online still assume the federal credit exists. It does not. If you shop in Georgia today, these four facts matter more than any spec sheet.
The federal EV credit ended
The $7,500 new-EV credit and the $4,000 used-EV credit both ended on September 30, 2025. A 2026 buyer receives no federal purchase credit, which removes the main reason Electric cars used to pencil out.
Georgia charges EVs about $239 a year
Battery-Electric vehicles pay an annual state fee of about $238.59, and Georgia recalculates it each July. Conventional Hybrids pay nothing extra, so you plan around a real yearly cost only if you go Electric.
Georgia electricity costs little
Georgia charges roughly 15 cents per kWh, about 24% below the national average. Home charging costs around 4 to 5 cents a mile, while gas at 30 mpg costs about 13 cents a mile.
Where you park at night decides it
Home charging drives the Electric savings. A house with a driveway makes the math work. An apartment or street parking without a charger points you toward a Hybrid.
